How does your board differ from others such as UpWork?

Oct 9, 4:29AM EDT0

Hello Nancy,

Upwork offers mainly freelancing opportunites, which we do not provide.

We are trying to connect students to local businesses, via jobs and internships. These companies are either small or medium sized and we belive that it can be an amazing platform to boost a candidates' experience. At the same time, it helps the small businesses grow as they receive a pool of candidates and they can choose the right candidate that they think will help grow their business.

Best regards.

How many people are working for Liladesk?

Oct 8, 6:25PM EDT0

Hello Susan35,

Thanks for the question.

At the moment there are less than 5 people working for Liladesk. We hope this number starts to rise soon!

Kind regards.

Do you also offer a CV service?

Oct 8, 3:44PM EDT0

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for your question.

We currently do not have a CV service, but we are planning on adding one in the near future, along with other features. We are starting small and have launched just over a month ago. Our main objective right now is to post several jobs and internships that students can apply to.

Best regards

Tell us about one of the most challenging experiences along your journey

Oct 8, 11:58AM EDT0

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for your question. Our journey has just started but we have faced a few challenging experiences so far. Starting something new was difficult as nobody knew about us. We first started to look for employers in restaurants and shops around Southampton and we presented our idea to them. The response was overwhelmingly but not many people got in touch with us later on. We must say though that a few people where extremely helpful, friendly and gave us a chance.

Another challenging aspect of our journey was to do with the website itself. We worked a lot in the months prior to our launch date but were struggling to finalise everything before going live. Since we are students, our budgets were limited and had to learn bits of coding to make ends meet.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our experiences.

Kind regards

How do you monetize LilaDesk?

Oct 8, 11:03AM EDT0

Hi Shilpa,

Thank you for your question.

We are monetising Liladesk by charging employers to post their jobs and internships on our website. This is done so that students are always presented with valuable job postings. We currently do not have any adverts, but are planning to put up a banner advert for employers in the near future.

Kind regards,

Oct 9, 4:18AM EDT0

How do you monetize your site, is it free or do you charge a fee?

Oct 8, 9:42AM EDT0

Hi Timothy,

Thank you for your question.

Our website is free for students and employers. We are monetising our site by charging employers a small payment to post their job or internship vacancy. We currently do not have any adverts, but are planning to put up a banner advert for employers in the near future. We provide employers with different package options, depending on how many jobs they want to post and give them the opportunity to find what is best for them.

Kind regards

How many postings and users do you currently have?

Oct 8, 8:18AM EDT0

Hi Morgan,

Thank you for your question.

The postings, vary everyday so it is hard to give you an exact number, although, I can tell you that in general there are over a 100 jobs to apply to. This number is rather small now but many more are to come in the following months as we have now finalised other technical issues that occurred after launch day. You should also notice that our aim is not to have millions of job posts but to have a much smaller amount as it is tailored to students, recent graduates and small companies.

The number of users is steadily increasing and right now we have more than 500 users.

Kind regards

How did you come up with the name?

Oct 8, 7:10AM EDT0

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for the question.

We had a brainstorming session in June and wrote words that we thought related to the idea. We were not interested in having something obvious such as “student”, “jobs”, “internship” or similar. We initially came up with Bluedesk. We liked the idea of “lilla” (lilac in Italian, symbolising independence, ambition and stability), but dropped a “L” to become "Liladesk".

Oh and by the way, it is pronounced as “Lee-la-desk” !

I hope you enjoyed this little story of ours.

Kind regards

I have noticed that some of the employers say they pay according to the national minimum wage, how much is the minimum wage in your country?

Oct 8, 6:08AM EDT0

Hi Jay64,

Thank you for your question.

The UK’s National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates are set by the government. Changes to this rate are sometimes made so it is best to look on:

https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates

In the above link you will also be able to see all the relevant information concerning what the different rates are depending on your age, and what are the conditions and requirements to get the minimum wage.

I hope this will be helpful.

Oct 8, 4:54AM EDT0

Hi Thomas,

What inspired you to create a job board?

Oct 8, 4:30AM EDT0

Hi Megan,

Thank you for your question. We are aware that there is an abundant number of job-board websites all over the world but we still decided to make another one.

We believe ours is different from the rest as we exclusively cater to students and do our best every day to provide them with interesting opportunities they can apply to. We are also aware that it is often hard to find a job close to home or near your university and this is why all of our jobs can be located on our map.

Coming back to your question, last year we were looking for internships but could not find any local enterprises, where we could get real “hands-on” experience. We believed that it was hard for us to find them and hard for the small companies to reach out to us, hence we decide to create Liladesk!

Kind regards,

Liladesk team

Do you have a mobile app to accompany it?

Oct 8, 4:18AM EDT0

Hi Wrich,

Thank you for your question.

We currently do not have an app but you can still visit liladesk.com on your mobile where you will find an optimised version of the website for small devices.  This said, we are looking into developing an app as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

What was the biggest hurdle starting a job website and how did you overcome it?

Oct 7, 10:42PM EDT0

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your question.

A challenging aspect of our journey was to do with the website itself. We worked a lot in the months prior to our launch date but were struggling to finalise everything before going live. Since we are students, our budgets were limited and had to learn several bits of coding to make ends meet. This was a challenging task as we had to learn languages from scratch and had to implement it effectively.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our experiences.

If I'm not a citizen of your country, will I need a work permit?

Oct 7, 10:19PM EDT0

Hello WilliamSmike,

Thanks for the question.

You will need to apply for a work permit visa to be eligible for jobs. However, some companies do sponsor your work or tier 2 visa. This is completely dependant on the company.

How do you advertise your website and what has been the feedback?

Oct 7, 9:40PM EDT0

Hello Patricia,

Thanks for the question.

All our advertisement has been organic so far. We have used patforms such as Facebook and linkedin to spread the word. The feedback has been phenomenal and we were able to reach our target audience very efficiently. We have also made blogs, infographics and videos to help engage our audience.

Feel free to visit our Facebook page(https://www.facebook.com/Liladesk) and support us in our journey!

Best regards

Where are you located and how many employers do you have on your website on average?

Oct 7, 8:19PM EDT0

Hello,

We are currently located in Southampton. On average, there are 55 - 60 employers added per month. However, it has only been a month since launch and is expected to rise.

Do you also offer overseas jobs and jobs working from home?

Oct 7, 6:30PM EDT0

Hello Angela,

Thanks for the question.

There are so many huge jobsites, how do you compete with them and is it worth it?

Oct 7, 6:21PM EDT0

Hello Krystal24,

Thanks for the question.

We do appreciate the fact that there are several jobsite. We are targeting a specific market and that makes us stand out. The problem we noticed with competitors is that small companies do not get any sort of importance and most students often neglect the job opportunites at these companies. That is where we come in and try to highlight the value of these companies. While we are competing with them, we are also providing a completely different set of job opportunites.

At the end of the day, it is completely worth it as students learn valuable transferrable skills and small companies get the opportunity to grow.

Best regards.

What gave you the idea and who designed the website?

Oct 7, 5:39PM EDT0

Hi Sheryl,

Thank you for your question.

We are aware that it is often hard to find a job close to home or near your university. Last year we were looking for internships but could not find any local enterprises, where we could get real “hands-on” experience. We believed that it was hard for us to find them and hard for the small companies to reach out to us, hence we decide to create Liladesk!

My co-founder and I have designed aspects of the website. Although most of the coding was done by us, we seeked helped when we were unsure of how to proceed.

Kind regards

Thats interesting. How is this job board different compared to others?

Oct 7, 5:02PM EDT0

Hello James Heath,

Basically, we are trying to connect students to local businesses, via jobs and internships. These companies are either small or medium sized and we belive that it can be an amazing platform to boost a candidates' experience. Do employers contact you or do you have people sourcing jobs continuously?

Oct 7, 3:23PM EDT0

Hello KimberlyCollins,

Companies have contacted us to get their job posts on our website. At the same time, some of our members are actively sourcing jobs by calling or emailing the respective company.

Oct 7, 5:33PM EDT0

Is the job board only useful for people in the UK?

Oct 7, 1:32PM EDT0

Hello Melodyama,

At the moment, it is only for people in the UK. We will soon introduce a section where people living outside the UK will also be eligible to apply.

Thanks for the question!
